Natural News Confirms Culligan ZeroWater The Best At Heavy Metals Water Filters!
Tap water is known for having a range of contaminants, including heavy metals that can become toxic to our health if large amounts are consumed. The good news is that some water filter jugs on the market can remove these metals from your water.
However, not every jug is as good at it as others, so you need to be careful which one you buy.
Mike Adams and Natural News, a science-based health advocacy organisation, recently tested several countertop heavy metals water filter jugs for their ability to remove toxic heavy metals and elements with radioactive isotopes.
The conclusion wasn’t surprising as it praised Culligan Zerowater filter jugs as one of the best on the market for removing heavy metals from your tap water.
At Culligan Zerowater, we are thrilled with this endorsement, as it further proves our aim to help you drink clean and pure water.
In this article, we share all the details about the test, the results and why removing heavy metals from your water is so important.
Why Is Removing Heavy Metals From Water Important?
Exposure to heavy metals, even small amounts, can be harmful to our health in several ways:
- Bioaccumulation – metals can build up in your system, leading to chronic toxicity.
- Neurological and developmental damage – they are especially dangerous for children and pregnant women, as exposure can cause learning disabilities, behavioural issues, and lower IQ.
- Organ damage – Long-term exposure to these contaminants can harm the liver, kidneys, and nervous system.
Examples of how different metals can affect your health include:
- Lead – brain damage, developmental issues in children, kidney problems.
- Mercury – nervous system damage, kidney issues, cognitive decline.
- Arsenic – increased risk of cancer, skin disorders, and cardiovascular disease.
- Cadmium – kidney disease, bone weakening, respiratory issues.
Removing them from your water with a heavy metals water filter is an easy way to reduce your intake of these toxic metals. As the graphic below shows, various common kitchen items also carry some of the metals, increasing your exposure.
Which Heavy Metals Water Filters Were Tested?
In their research, Natural News conducted an experiment comparing several well-known water filters.
These included:
- Culligan ZeroWater
- Pur
- Brita Maxtra
- Seychelle
- Culligan
- Mavea
- Waterman Portable Alkaline Water Purifier
They compared the results of how each branded filter removed a number of heavy metals.
What Heavy Metals Were Tested For?
The test specifically focused on the removal of the following metals from tap water:
- Aluminum
- Copper
- Arsenic
- Strontium
- Cadmium
- Caesium
- Mercury
- Lead
- Uranium
How Were The Heavy Metals Water Filters Tested?
As a science-based journalistic organisation, Natural News set up a rigorous and scientifically minded test to put the heavy metals water filters through.
- Create a multi-element "spike" solution that contains between 1300 ppb to 2300 ppb concentrations of each element being tested.
- Flush the filters with purified laboratory water.
- Load the pitcher’s reservoir with the “spiked” solution and let it filter to the holding section.
- Remove a sample of filtered water from the holding section with a clean pipette.
- Weigh the sample and prepare it for ICP-MS analysis.
- Run each sample through the ICP-MS, ensuring a variety of control measures are in place.
- Note and analyse results.
What Were The Results?
The results were clear. The only heavy metal water filter to reduce the amount of each heavy metal was Culligan Zerowater filter jugs.
The percentage of heavy metals reduced in the tap water by one of our jugs ranged from 99.1% to 100%. Whereas other water filters had results as low as -179.0% (meaning the filter added the metal or isotope to the water).
Our water filter was the only jug to have removed 100% of aluminium, strontium, and caesium, with the second best only removing 62.4%, 30.2% and 38.7% of each metal or isotope.
If you want to dive further into some of the results, take a look at the table below.

At the end of the test, Mike Adams concluded with the following statement:
“Based on the laboratory analysis completed here at Natural News, I can only recommend two water filters in the category of countertop "pitcher" filters. The two filters I recommend are:
- Zerowater
- Waterman Mini”
