At Culligan ZeroWater, We want to Inspire & Encourage You to Continue Looking After Your Mental Wellbeing a Year into the Covid-19 Pandemic.
A year into the Covid-19 outbreak in the UK many of us are experiencing ‘pandemic burnout’ as we have spent the majority of the year confined to our homes, isolated from usual support systems and routines. If you feel you are struggling during this perpetual pandemic follow our top tips and advice to help improve your mental wellness and mindfulness in this continuously trying time.
Culligan ZeroWater’s Top Tips & Advice to Improve Your Mental Wellbeing
1. Self-Care
Take time for yourself, have a bath, mediate, read, watch a film, take some time off of social media. Its best to focus on the present – you can only do your best with what you have today. With regulations changing frequently, and lots of conflicting media discussions, try and keep a focus on the moment. Mindfulness meditation is one way of bringing your mind back to the present moment.
2. Stay Connected
Even though we can no longer see friends and family in person as much as we would wish, its essential that we stay social either virtually or socially distant outside. Humans are social creatures. Organise hang outs with friends and family over FaceTime, Skype, messenger or in an open space such as a park. Talk to your trusted friends and family about your worries and anxieties, don’t bottle up your feelings.

3. Structure & Routine
Is crucial in order to maintain your mental health and keep your mind busy. Plan how you are going to spend your time each day to make sure you don’t lose your way or give in to stagnation and boredom. Make sure you schedule in time for relaxation and unwinding, don’t try and cram in productivity into every hour. Sometimes all you need is to sit down and switch off for a while.
4. Get Creative with Your Time
Take up hobbies such as baking, reading, writing, scrapbooking. Savour the free time you have while the world stands still, when things start up again you may find yourself too busy to do fun hobbies.
5. Talk to Your Work About How They Can Support You
Many workplaces are allowing more flexible working even if people need to return. If you are finding it hard to get to work, or do particular shifts or activities because of anxiety or fear, speak to your manager or a colleague you trust if that feels right. If you have or have had longer term mental health problems, you may be entitled to reasonable adjustments as a disabled person under the Equality Act. Even if you haven’t disclosed before, if it feels safe to do so now you might be able to benefit from doing so.
One of the Best Things we can do for Our Bodies and Minds is to Stay Active despite Our Fatigue during the Ongoing Pandemic.
Home workouts are a great and fun way to keep your moving, maintain your level of fitness and give your mental wellbeing a boost. You can even get the whole family involved by following along with enthusiastic, energetic work out videos on YouTube in your very own living room. P.E. with Joe Wicks is an excellent example of a home workout that benefits both adults and children alike, as Wicks has since received an MBE for his amazing work keeping the British public and children active during lock-down. So you know he is the one to trust with your families fitness! Exercise releases endorphins and serotonin which will help to decrease anxiety and make you feel energised and happier.

Good sleep is essential to mental and physical health! Sleep is when your brain can rest, process anxieties through dreams and file away memories and information. Lack of sleep can seriously damage your mental wellbeing! Moreover, according to The National Institutes of Health (NIH): “Immune system activation alters sleep, and sleep in turn affects the innate and adaptive arm of our body's defense system.” While the amount of sleep needed for good health and optimum performance mostly depends on the individual, the CDC recommends adults age 18-60 years get seven or more hours of sleep per night. So while it may be tempting to stay up late and to abandon your usual sleep schedule. It is tempting to do so when working from home, but this could seriously damage your mental health and reduce the performance levels of your immune system.
